Welcome to the Career (Con)Quest Comics Series!
Every week, we’ve been publishing a new episode about Sam’s journey towards finding his ideal new job and all the (mis)adventures happening with him on his way to better employment.
Why comics and not just the good ol’ regular “weekly career tip” kinda post?
Well, for one we agree with The New York Times that comics are as important as Shakespeare prose.
Secondly, they are a far better medium to convey the ups and downs of job search and provide a little learning moment (without sounding preachy).
Lastly, well… comics are just fun, right? And we all need a quick giggle once in a while.
And this week: Why do first dates feel like a job interview?
The first half an hour always feels awkward. You try to show your best side and yet end up saying something inappropriate instead. Being ‘fashionably late’ isn’t something you should do. Worse, you may get ghosted after what seemed like a perfectly great job interview.
While you may not be searching for a life-long job… you might want to get the One.
So here are a few quick tips for having a great first interview:
- Dress for the occasion – smart casual is usually the safest option.
- Don’t overshare.
- Be a good listener and don’t interrupt the other party.
- Ask quick questions too.
Bonus tip: all of the above equally applies to having a great first job interview and a great first date. Good luck with both!
